Here are the 10 must-watch Netflix Series of 2021 which I really enjoyed watching during my free time. Let’s see if you have seen it all!
I can say that the year 2021 is the best year of K-dramas and Netflix series which really gave us so much excitement and enjoyment while watching. So I made a list of the Netflix series that I have watched last year. So if you haven’t seen these series you better start watching them soon. I’m gonna write the list according to the date of their released date.
My 10 Must-Watch Netflix Series of 2021
1. Love Alarm Season 2
The Love Alarm Season 2 (좋아하면 울리는 2) was released on Netflix last March 12, 2021, while the first season was in 2019. It took about 2 years before they released season 2.
The story of this K-drama series is a story about an app made by an unknown developer that gives you an alert when someone in the vicinity of 10 meters likes you. It was starred Kim So Hyun as Kim Jojo, Jung Ga Ram as Lee Hye Young, and Song Kang as Hwang Sun Oh.
I also visited some of the filming locations of Love Alarm Season 1.
2. Move to Heaven
Move to Heaven (무브 투 헤븐: 나는 유품정리사입니다) is also an original Netflix series released on May 14, 2021. It was directed by Kim Sung-ho and written by Yoon Ji-ryeon. This Netflix series was starred by Lee Je Hoon (one of my favorite Korean actors), Tan Joong Sang, Hong Seung Hee, and Ji Jin Hee.
A 10 episode series about a young man, Geu-ru ( Tan Joong Sang ) with Asperger syndrome that works as a trauma cleaner. His father died and he was left alone to manage their business Move to Heaven. One day this father’s younger brother Sang-gu (Lee Je Hoon) came helped him to run the business.
Move to Heaven is also one of my favorite Korean Netflix series of 2021.
3. Sweet and Sour
Sweet and Sour (새콤달콤) is not a series but a romantic comedy film released on Netflix on June 4, 2021. It is based on the novel Initiation Love by Kurumi Inui. The film was starred Jang Ki-Yong, Chae Soo-bin, and Krystal Jung. The story of Sweet and Sour is a story of love at first but drifted apart because of work.
4. Kingdom: Ashin of the North
Kingdom: Ashin of the North was aired last July 23, 2021, as the side sequel of Kingdom Season 1 and 2. This film’s story is about the loss of Ashin’s( Jun Ji-Hyun) family and tribe which was shrouded in betrayal.
5. D. P. (Deserter Pursuit)
D.P is a six episodes series that starred Jung Hae-in, Koo Kyo-hwan, Kim Sung-Kyun, and Seon Seok-hoo. It was released on Netflix on August 27, 2021, and it was confirmed that it will be having a second season.
The story of D.P is about a Korean military police team whose mission is to catch the deserter or those who run away from the military camp.
6. Squid Game
If there’s one series that made it to Top 1 across the world, it is Squid Game. This series became popular all over the world after it’s released on September 17, 2021. Squid Game is a survival series where the famous Korean children’s game where played in a different twist. Its cast includes Lee Jung-Jae, Park Hae-soo, Ho Yeon-Jung, Heo Sung-Tae, Kim Joo-ryung, and O Yeong-su. Squid Game also gave a big break to Anupam Tripathi known as Ali in the series and to a Filipino actor, Christian Lagahit.
The Squid Game also had a pop-up event last year at Itaewon station and luckily I am able to visit.
7. My Name
Aside from Move to Heaven, this series was also on my favorite list. It was directed by Kim Jin-min and starring Han So-hee (from the Korean drama The World of the Married and Nevertheless), Park Hee-soon, and Ahn Bo-Hyun. It was released on Netflix last October 15, 2021.
The story is about a girl who was seeking revenge for her father’s death and teamed up with a powerful gangster to search for the truth.
8. Hellbound
Hellbound is actually on the bottom of my list since it doesn’t really my type of series. It’s a dark fantasy story about cult, religion, faith, and belief. There are monsters who come to Earth and judge people that they will be sent to hell.
Starring in the main casts Yoo Ah-in, Kim Hyun-Joo, Park Jeong-min, Won Jih-ah, and Yang Ik-june. Hellbound also had a pop-up event at COEX last year.
9. New World
New World is not a Korean drama or film but it is actually a reality show. It has 8 episodes where six celebrities went to the New World for six days to earn virtual currency by fulfilling a task and playing games that they can encash if they manage to escape the island.
I include this one because it is actually fun to watch. I saw how strategic the celebrities are including Lee Seung-gi, Eun Ji-won, Kai of EXO, Park Na-Rae, Jo Bo Ah, and Kim Hee Chul from Super Junior.
10. The Silent Sea
Last but not least. The Silent Sea was released on Christmas Eve starring Gong-Yoo, Bae Doo-na, and others. The story is about the space explorers who went to the moon and complete a 24-hour mission.

I’m a little choosy with the Korean shows I watch, so I’ve only seen Squid Game in your list. My Name and DP plots sound interesting, I just might try them on for size. 🙂
