Christmas Light Displays in Seoul

Sharing is caring!

Christmas light displays in Seoul are very spectacular and stunning where it gives a real Christmas mood even though there are no carolings.

Celebrating Christmas may be lonely for many of us especially for those who are away from home. Many of us are also spending Christmas without a home due to typhoons, fires, or tsunami. It’s sad, isn’t it? But whenever we see even a small glimpse of Christmas light it makes us happy and believes that one day will be home. It’s also a light that gives hope to us that after the storm we will have a brighter day.

Even though it is a silent Christmas here in Seoul, businesses and the government also prepared something to at least celebrate the holiday. My last post, 5 Ways on How to get the Christmas Mood in Korea in 2021 includes the light displays hunting. So let’s see how stunning Seoul is during Christmas.

Where to Spot Christmas Light Displays in Seoul

Starfield Library, COEX

The biggest library in Seoul located in COEX also put up a huge white Christmas tree which gives a bright and shining color. It is actually near the Hyundai Trade Center branch that’s why I am able to take photos both of the H-Village and the library.

How to get here?: Samseong Station (Subway Line 2), Exit 6

Hyundai Department Store

H-Village, Hyundai Trace Center, COEX

Hyundai Department Store chose the theme of H-Village where you can see a white small house with decorations inside and surrounded by Christmas trees. They have the display in Apgujeong and COEX. Although the Pangyo branch is located at Gyeonggi-do, still a lot of people visit the Christmas light display there.

Lotte World

We all know that Lotte World is one of the most visited attractions in Seoul. It is consists of an indoor theme park and outdoor amusement park which is known as the Magic Island. There are different kinds of fun rides and activities for the whole family and friends.

This year, Lotte World called its Christmas display ‘Miracle Winter‘ which lights up and perform from November 26 to December 31.

Lotte World Mall

Lotte World Mall has the Little Cloud Big Wishes theme but there’s also another display that you can see just like the seasonal stairway on the 5th floor. I called it seasonal because the management changes the design depending on the season and year. This year, it was like White Christmas.

Also, there is the ‘CHANEL N°5 X ICE RINK’ where you can skate until January 16, 2022, from 12:00 pm up to 10:00 pm for 12,000 won.

Address: 240, Olympic-ro, Songpa-gu, Seoul
How to get here?: Jamsil Station (Subway Line 2), Exit 4, 3

Lotte Department Store, Myeongdong

Lotte Department Store in Myeongdong displayed its Little Cloud Big Wishes Christmas decors outside the building. It is near the Shinsegae Department store that’s why these two got a lot of visitors every day.

IFC Mall

IFC Mall’s theme is quite cute because of the Santa Clauses that are busy making a Santa hat. Aside from that the mall also prepared a lightning display outside the building which lightens up during the night.

Address: 10, Gukjegeumyung-ro, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul
How to get here?: Yeouido Station (Subway Line 5 or 9), Exit 3

Times Square Mall

The Times Square Mall is located in Yeongdeungpo has a huge Christmas tree and carries the ‘Utopia Holidays‘ theme. Honestly, I haven’t visited the Times Square mall because according to my friend it has a long line every day so it is not that possible to just take a photo and leave.

Address: 15, Yeongjung-ro, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul
How to get here?: Yeongdeungpo Station (Subway Line 1), Exit 4

Shinsegae Department Store

Shinsegae Department Store in Myeongdong is one of the most spectacular Christmas light displays in Seoul where you can see a lot of people taking photos and videos near the mall. The Magic Holiday display will run until January 21, 2022, from 5:30 pm up to 12:00 midnight.

Myeongdong Station (Subway Line 4), Exit 6 or 5

Seoul Plaza

The Seoul Plaza also has a tall Christmas tree with a cross on the top of it near the I SEOUL U logo. It is simple but of course, still gives a special meaning to everyone. I took a picture and the lights are not yet noticeable because we arrived earlier than we expected. That’s why I just use some photo tricks to make it prettier.

Address: 110 Sejong-daero, Jung-gu, Seoul
How to get here?: City Hall Station (Subway Line 1, 2), Exit 5

Cheonggyecheon

Every year, the Seoul City government also has its own Christmas display at Cheonggyecheon stream but due to corona they only used a small space. Reservation before visiting is a must although admission is free.

The lightning starts at 6:00 in the evening and the viewing will be until December 31, 2021.

Address: 1 Cheonggyecheon-ro, Jongno-gu, Seoul
How to get here?: Gwanghwamun Station (Subway Line 5), Exit 5

Myeongdong Cathedral

Myeongdong Cathedral’s LED light roses are admired by visitors during the Christmas season. The best spot to take photos of the cathedral is visiting the MOLTO Cafe’s rooftop.

Address: 74 Myeongdong-gil, Jung-gu, Seoul
How to get here?: Myeongdong Station (Subway Line 4), Exit 6, 7, 8

Myeongdong Light Festival

The trees in Myeongdong are decorated with Christmas lights and there’s a huge Christmas tree at the front of Myeongdong Theater. The light festival is simple and light and honestly, even though Myeongdong is filled with lights still it lost its sparks since the pandemic. Before we had corona, Myeongdong is one of the busiest places in Seoul from day to evening. It’s the shopping district of Seoul and a lot of tourists stay near Myeongdong because it’s accessible thru subway stations, lots of restaurants, and shopping stores. But now, it feels so lonely. I really hope this pandemic will end soon so we can back to the things we used to do like traveling.
