Visiting K-Star Road in Gangnam where K-pop stars are born. Looking at these cute Gangnam dolls made my day!
Marking today’s date, I got the time to visit K-Star Road which is really famous among tourists because of the Hallyu Wave. I’ve been here in Korea for almost 6 years but never had the chance to visit K-Star Road. I’ve been roaming around Seoul here and there but this place, I mean Gangnam goes to the bottom of my list all the time. I don’t know the reason either why I kept on putting it down to visit. Maybe it’s out of the subway line where I used to live or maybe I’m not fantasizing K-Pop much. Or maybe because when you say ‘Gangnam’ it’s like the neighborhood of the rich to richest.
But I am not saying that I don’t like K-pop too. I listen to their songs, I watch their shows and events but I don’t collect their items. I’m trying to be minimalist so decluttering some of my stuff and also I cannot afford to be a fan. Cause I know that when you start buying an album, it will not stop there. But you’ll gonna get one and another. So it’s not in my priorities.
But today, I set it as my priority to show how you the look of the K-Star Rood during this pandemic. I know it’s different because I know a lot of fans and tourists who visit Korea have this place on their bucket list. So let’s check it out!
K-Star Road
The K-Star Road can be found in the crossroads of Cheongdam connecting in Apgujeong Rodeo where you can see most of the luxurious brands in the world like Louis Vitton, Channel Gucci, Cartier, and many more. Aside from the luxurious brands that you can see along the road, many of the entertainment agencies are here. That’s why it was known as the road where stars are born.
When you take the Apgujeong Rodeo station exit 1, you’ll be able to see the big Gangnam dol. It is located in front of the Galleria department store across from the GangnamDol Haus where you can buy the mini sizes of Gangnamdol.
NOTE: Due to pandemic the shop is still closed with an indefinite schedule when will it open again.
The Gangnam Dol derives from the compound word ‘Gangnam’, idol’, and ‘doll’. These human-scale bear dolls represent the famous K-pop artists of Korea. The K-Star Road took about 2 years to finish and a lot of fans came to visit and took their best photos with their favorite k-pop group. Not just the fans but artists too including BTS.
Course 1: Meet the GangnamDols
- PSY (the biggest one)
- 4 minute
- Super Junior

According to the map, there are 17 dolls but only found 13. I am not sure if I miss the 4 (AOA, SHINee, TVXQ!, and INFINITE) dolls or it’s just missing. There’s also a Star tree beside the GangndamDol KARA.
Course 2: Visiting Entertainment Agencies
To make the trip more fun, I tried visiting some of the entertainment agencies of famous stars. But sad to say that SM and JYP entertainment already moved to another location last year and the SM TOWN and Cafe is under renovation.
Although, I still had the chance to see 3 agencies of some of the famous stars.

Hook Entertainment is the agency that manages Korean actors like Lee Seung-gi, Lee Seo-jin, the award-winning actress Youn Yuh-jung, Seo Bum-june, and my favorite ballad singer Lee Sun-hee.

To make the trip complete, there’s what they called Cheongdam Food Street in the area where you can find a lot of restaurants and cafes where you can eat and have some coffee.

I’m afraid I only know BTS music, though I am familiar with Blackpink and Psy. I think the Psy doll being the biggest is deserving since I think he was the first to make a breakthrough into global market?
