Traveling makes me happy and here are some of the reasons that made me travel to Suwon Hwaseong Fortress as a solo traveler.
If you are my follower you will notice that I don’t travel that far alone. I’ve been to Jeju, Gangwondo, and Gyeonggido by car and with family. But I am very eager and excited to go somewhere and I can’t wait forever so I decided to travel alone.
I stepped forward to make things happen. If I don’t I think I will gonna lose that chance and will regret it later. So I made a plan to travel to Suwon. The reason why? I will list them below so keep reading!
Reasons That Made Me Travel to Suwon Hwaseong Fortress
Challenge Myself
Traveling alone in an unfamiliar place is a bit scary to me. I usually overthink and I have so many what-ifs. Although, I’ve been to Suwon with a friend and that was 3 years ago. It was my first time there and I don’t know where to go. We just walked and visit the Hwaseong Haenggung and had some coffee at the museum.
So last August 16, I challenged myself to overcome my fears and booked a ticket going to Suwon. I booked a ticket using the Korailtalk App 2 days before the 16th and paid 7,400 won (6$) for the roundtrip.
Giving Myself a Break
As a working mom giving time for yourself is very important. Although I work part-time my daily life is like a war. Need to wake up before 6:00 am to prepare breakfast, eat, get ready and leave the house at 7:45 am. I also bring my son to daycare then I go to work. I work from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. After work, I will fetch my son and go home.
After arriving home, I will prepare food for dinner, eat, wash the dishes, clean a bit, shower, study, and go to bed. This is my everyday routine and there are times that I feel so exhausted and tired.
To give myself a break, I usually go out with friends or travel alone. Even if it is not far, as long as there’s a beautiful view, yummy coffee and I will be fine. Giving myself a chance to relax and have peace of mind is very helpful. We usually call it Me Time.
Being a mom doesn’t mean we should not leave the house and just take care of the family. No! If you want to take good care of your family you must learn to take care of yourself too.
Test My Camera
Aside from the emotional reasons that made me travel to Suwon Hwaseong Fortress I also have my two main motives for why I went there. I got a Sony a6000 mirrorless camera and I wanted to try it. It is not a new model but I’ve read good reviews about it except for one thing, it is not touched-screen.
I am crazy, isn’t it? There are so many places in Seoul I can take photos of but still wanted to travel far just to take photos.
Visit Korean Drama Filming Locations
The main reason that made me travel to Suwon Hwaseong Fortress is to visit the Korean drama filming locations of Extraordinary Attorney Woo and Twenty Five, Twenty One.
I took an ITX in Seoul station going to Suwon because its timetable is the same as KTX. Also, going back to Seoul I took Mugunghwa which is cheaper than ITX and KTX. The train left at 9:15 in the morning and arrived at Suwon station at 9:45. I took a taxi going to the filming location for Extraordinary Attorney Woo which is inside the Suwon Hwaseong Fortress.
Arriving early was the best decision I made because I was the only one taking pictures at that time. When I passed on it while I am on my way to Haenggung Party there was a line of visitors taking photos and I think also falling in line for lunch. I wanted to try their menu but my stomach is not getting along with me. To avoid some problems, I chose to eat at the station.
After here, I went to the location of Twenty Five, Twenty One which is on the left side of Suwon Hanggeung Palace. I walked for about 15 minutes to arrive here.
I was thinking to leave already but a friend of mine told me that Our Beloved Summer was also filmed in Suwon. From HwaseongSeonggwak-fil (ํ์ฑ์ฑ๊ณฝ๊ธธ) I walked for about 20 minutes going to Haenggung Party (ํ๊ถํํฐ), the filming location of Beloved Summer.
Traveling with friends and family is fun but sometimes we discover more things when we travel alone. We learn from things we do, we meet new people, and have that confidence in ourselves that we can do it.
