Summer Picnic at Seoul Iris Garden

Another way to spend the summer in Seoul is to do a summer picnic at Seoul Iris Garden. Do you know where is this place? Let’s check out this post.

It’s my first time visiting the Seoul Iris Garden. It’s a garden located right away at Dobongsan Station. It operates from 5:00 in the morning till 10:00 in the evening. It looks like a special botanical garden field with irises, that’s why it was called Seoul Iris Garden. Irises are one of the four most beautiful flowers in the world.

 

The Seoul Iris Garden (서울창포원) has an area of about 50,000 square meters and consists of 12 themes. Of course, it includes the Iris Garden theme which consists of almost 300,000 irises with different kinds like the beachhead irises, yellow and milky irises.

Aside from the irises, there are also different kinds of flowers that bloom depends on the season. If I am not mistaken, most of them bloom during the spring season.

Picnic with friends or family

Having a picnic here is allowed but you have to go to the designated place provided. 잔디마당 means grass garden (6), 숲속쉼터 (5)  means forest shelter and 늘푸른원 (4) the spot with a lot of pine trees.

My friend and I went for a picnic here and honestly, it’s really a quiet place. Even though the weather is very very humid it’s very pleasant and it’s a cool feeling to sit under the trees.

We also brought some food to eat like kimbap, jadu or plum in English and others. I brought my “Welcome to Seoul” mat from Seoul Tourism Organization as part of our welcome kit for the Global Seoul Mate 2020.

Have a walk

Seoul Iris Garden is such a good place to have a walk and visit with kids. It’s close to nature and they’ll see a lot of flowers and if you are an expert with it you can teach them the different kinds of flowers and trees available in this garden.

The garden consists various of beautiful flowers that make the place so wonderful. Flowers are special. They make us happy and feel better because it’s medicine and food for the soul.

Visit the Book & Cafe

There’s a book and cafe inside the garden so you can order drinks if you are not able to bring any.

The Seoul Iris Garden has 12 themes and I bet you’ll enjoy looking around. There’s a garden that consists of different irises and other flowers, a garden of medicinal plants, a spot with a lot of pine trees, and others.

I love the 숲속쉼터 which looks like a mini forest and I felt that I was in Baguio City in the Philippines.

Do’s and Don’ts

• Observe cleanliness
• Drinking alcoholic drinks is not allowed.
• Be sure to observe the designated area and time for a picnic.
• Putting up big tents and closed tents are not allowed.
• Smoking is not allowed.

Seoul Iris Garden Map Guide

The map guide of the garden is located exactly at the entrance. As you can see that there’s a parking lot for the disabled person who wants to visit the garden plus the 12 themes of the garden. You’ll find a restroom at the visitor’s center.

How to get here?

Take the Seoul Subway Line 1 and take off at Dobongsan Station, exit 1.

There are so many ways to enjoy a summer vacation in Seoul. I’ve also experienced visiting some hidden valleys in Seoul like Suseongdong Valley and Uidong Valley. Aside from that, eating summer foods is perfect to enjoy summer vacation too.
