Coffee Prince or 커피프린스 1호점 is a 2007 TV series aired on MBC which stars Yoon Eun-hye, Gong Yoo, Lee Sun-kyun, and Chae Jung-an. This is based on a novel written by  Lee Sun-mi. The story of the drama is about an unlikely romance in which the girl was been mistaken as a guy. The cafe hires good-looking male staff only to attract more customers and she was one of them. As from her desperation to earn money and get the job, she hides her true gender.

Soon, Eun-chan and Han-kyul feelings started to develop. When Han-kyul knew that Eun-chan was a girl, he gets angry but later accepted the truth. They fell in love with each other and Han-kyul supported Eun-chan for her dream to study abroad.

Sanmotoonge Café: Coffee Prince’s Filming Location

In Korean, Sanmotoonge means “cafe at the corner of the mountain”. This café is one of those cafes that will give you the best panoramic view of Seoul. Aside from being the Coffee Prince’s filming location offers breath-taking views of the  Bugak and Inwang mountains. The best season to visit here is autumn as the view of the mountain is perfect. Located in the neighborhood of Buam-dong in the Jongno district of Seoul.

Opening Hours

The café opens starts from 11:00 am to 9:45 pm, Monday to Sunday. During holiday opening hours may differ. If you would like to visit with fewer visitors you should try visiting more earlier as the café gets a lot of customers during the afternoon.

Prices and Menu

The café serves drinks like coffee like cafe latte costs around 8,000 KRW and tea’s price is 8,000 KRW. Other beverages like ice teas cost around 8,000 KRW, and a beer costs 9,000 to 10,000 KRW. They have cakes too like Chocolate truffle, Greentea Cake, Strawberry Cake and others which costs 7,000KRW.

I can say that the prices are a bit expensive but the relaxing and great view that is given to each visitor is priceless. It is actually a great place to have coffee even if it’s hard to find. Since it’s Korean drama memorabilia, it shouldn’t be left out in your itinerary.

The Café’s Interior

The cafe’s indoor interior has an antique and modern touch. Some tables are brown and wooden-style, some are steel and leather, and glass windows that will able to see the outdoor view. There are some figures and Coffee prince memorabilia and on the other side have the interior of plants and flamingos. The windows are glass, this is the way to see the outside view of the cafe which is actually the beautiful mountain of Bugak and Inwang which is a part of the Seoul Fortress.

The Café’s Outdoor

The outdoor of the cafe is breathtaking with wonderful views. There are tables and chairs for visitors who love to look out for a calming view. Honestly, even though this place is a bit far and hard to find, I love to be here. This place is very quiet and relaxing.

Korean Drama Memorabilia

There’s a corner inside the cafe where the Korean dramas filmed here are posted on the wall. The Coffee Prince (커피프린스 1호점) of Yoon Eun-hye and Gong Yoo. My Princess, a Korean drama that starred Song Seung-heon and Kim Tae-he in the year 2011. Yoo Na’s Street (유나의 거리) or Steal Heart was filmed here too. A JTBC drama aired in 2104 starring Kim Ok-vin and Lee Hee-joon. Another Korean drama Cheong Dam Dong Scandal (청담동 스캔들) was filmed here in 2014, featured in episode 36 and 40. The member of Shinee Choi Min-ho has his scene here from the sitcom Salamander Guru and the Shadows (도롱뇽도사와 그림자 조작단) in 2012.

How to get here?

If you wish to take the bus going there get to the Gyeongbukgung Bus Station and board the bus either 1020, 7022, 7212 and take off at Buamdong Community Center. The stops are announced through English and there is a tv at the front of the bus showing the bus stop so it shouldn’t be a problem when figuring out where to get off.  Once you get off, turn right and walk a little going uphill along the street. Turn left and you’ll see the Cafe Stammtisch, keep walking uphill. You’ll cross the Buamdong Way Chicken and CU while following the road.  Take the right road going to the cafe. It’s actually at the top so prefer to wear comfortable shoes if you wish to do a little hiking.

If you wish to take a taxi just tell the address to the taxi driver and he will take you there without any hassle.
